Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani Sentence Updated in News Conference

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The sentence against Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani may be commuted said Iranian news this weekend. Additionally, Marcus Alfred Rudolf Hellwig and Jens Andreas Koch have been identified as the jailed German reporter and photographer for publication Bild am Sonntag; they are revealed as the reporters who interviewed Sajjad Qaderzadeh, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s son.

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s case has drawn international news coverage since fall 2010. But this weekend, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s sentencing took an unlikely turn when she met with international news briefly during a press conference. On Saturday, Ashtiani was quickly taken out of her prison cell briefly to reportedly meet with news reporters. As she stood with guards next to her, she denounced her previously lawyer, Mohammad Mostafaei, reportedly now in Norway; she threatened, if released from prison, to launch legal claims against Marcus Alfred Rudolf Hellwig and Jens Andreas Koch; and she vowed legal action against Mina Ahadi.

Her son Sajjad Qaderzadeh briefly met with news and vowed similar action. He told news that he’s been free since December 12 after posting a bail, that his mother is guilty, and that her stoning sentence “may change”.
