Are animals killed in the process of farming vegetarian food?

Yes.  Massive.  Massive numbers.  I grew up in a farming community.  In the spring "plow", no snake moves fast enough to escape the plow.  Most infant rodents and hatchlings are helpless as well.  As a kid, I had to "brush mow" the field next to my parents' house and I remember being okay with every critter perishing but bunnies.  (I'm a sucker for bunnies)  Every year, I'd freak out and try to save 'em.

Curiosity Mars Rover- Sun set

On its 956th sol (day) on Mars, the rover Curiosity used its MastCam to image a stunning sequence of the Sun (Sol) setting over the local horizon at Gale Crater, where it has been exploring since August 2012.

The individual images taken by Curiosity covered a period of about 6 minutes. The sequence however cannot make up a smooth movie of the sunset.

Using the foreground and horizon from one image and then recreating the sky and Sun in Photoshop, I have used Adobe Premier to create a near real-time sunset sequence as if you could stand on Mars and see it for yourself.

By no means perfect or accurate, but with the addition of a little 'lens flare' and the haunting music 'Lux Aeterna' by György Ligeti, this imagining of a sunset on Mars, I hope evokes a sense of awe and reverence.

International Date Line

The Diomedes are a pair of islands lying in the Bering Strait. The little Diomede island lies in America and houses a population of 146. The big Diomede island is located in Russia and is lonely. The two islands are located 4 kms away and International Date Line passes through them. So when the people in the little island look at the Bering Strait, they see tomorrow. When it's 9 PM Saturday night here, it will be 6 AM Sunday morning at the Big Diomede.
